For the purposes of this project, Sharebay will be used as an example of a gift economy infrastructure, because it is already in operation.
How can we build awareness of gift economy infrastructure once it exists? How do we make people aware of the direct mutual aid that people are willing to do for them? How can we spread kindness as a replacement to the competitive spirit driven home by capitalist-run enterprise?
Guerilla marketing is a strategy with many tactics that can be used as a nonviolent means of resisting a dominant societal system. Rather than launch any assault on existing institutions, guerilla marketing as a resistance strategy diverts attention and respect from such institutions into alternative systems. It could be as simple as putting up flyers, or as innovative as chalking a mixed media art piece on a prominent surface.
A creative giveaway event that generates the kind of energy that Coca Cola's so-called Happiness Machine pulled off could be a viral hit. Getting a buzz going is often about showmanship. Logistically, what's key is making sure the event is about a specific project. If that's Sharebay, somebody representing the event should be able to share information about how Sharebay works, how people can sign up, what's on offer in their area, and any questions that people are likely to have.
