About
Honor Pay is a free and straightforward website that allows people to award each other honors once per week. No money or trade is involved at all. You do not purchase Honors, one simply poofs into your account once per week. It exists for seven days, then disappears, and a new one replaces it.
Why we should use it
It is a way to publicly show gratitude to people for any reason. By giving people a way to accumulate positive reputation, it encourages people to do things that are good. People feel best and most friendly when they are able to see the good in each other, and Honor Pay actually quantifies in a meaningful way how much good they've put out into the world. It does not grant any particular awards, and it is also a subjective quantification of course. But this means it is not so easily treated hierarchically, and it can't be traded. It generally encourages good will and healthy relationships based on generosity, kindness, and other good qualities a person might like. An honor can mean anything you want, perhaps in return for a gift, or perhaps for doing a good deed for the community.
It stimulates gift economy. That's a huge reason. You can also link it to a Sharebay account and give somebody an Honor after they've gifted you something neat.
How to get it used
If you're intrigued, familiarize yourself with the How It Works, which is very concise and digestible. The short video is a great intro and the rest of the short page is worth reading. If you know somebody who you think deserves to feel good about the good they put into the world, introduce them to the idea of Honor Pay and see if they'd like it. If you know somebody's email address, you can actually create a ghost profile for them, which does not publicly expose their email address, and send them an honor before they ever join.
If you are in a social circle of people who are all just tired of money and want to figure out how to just be good to our neighbors in the happiest and most efficient ways possible, then you could host a digital workshop where you agree to get on a video call and somebody will walk through setting up a profile and awarding an Honor.
