Food Sovereignty is the right of people to healthy and culturally appropriate food produced through ecologically sound and sustainable methods, and their right to define their own food and agriculture systems. Similar to issues with food deserts, food sovereignty deals with how food is produced and distributed.
The lack of fresh, whole foods in communities of color and low-income communities intersects with food deserts, where people do not have access to the food that they want and need. Many times it may be hard due to the environment, to have access to airable growing land. In urban environments, it can be hard to find land to grow food.
