Rewilding is a progressive approach to conservation. It’s about letting nature take care of itself, enabling natural processes to shape land and sea, repair damaged ecosystems and restore degraded landscapes. Through rewilding, wildlife’s natural rhythms create wilder, more biodiverse habitats. This can be done by reintroducing native species into areas, or reintroducing native ecosystems like prairies back into areas to bring back the native wildlife. This is a broad approach to reintroducing fauna and wildlife back to areas that have been overdeveloped or destroyed. Rewilding also should keep in mind that most "wild" places were carefully maintained ecosystems, stewarded for thousands of years by indigenous people.
